Zorch Radio Episode 207: Essential Brony Albums

Airdate: Thursday, September 18th, 2014

95% of what we do at Zorch Radio has to do with music. The other 5% consists of beer, and trashy movies. So you could say that music is a really important part of our lives. But as an Invader, music is a big part of your life too, and we wanted to turn tonight’s episode’s focus on music and the albums that we play. There is nothing better than a band that releases an album that makes you feel like your life has been incomplete up until the first moment – but does that make for an essential album? Tonight we asked those in the Real Punk Radio our big question for the evening: What makes an album essential?

Serg said that if you felt the desire to have the album on every kind of medium – 8 track, vinyl, CD, digital download – then that made it an essential album. Kjersti and Hodaddy both agreed that an album kind of had to slip below the radar and flow easily, almost subconciously, and surprise you when the whole thing comes to the end. But what everyone could agree on is that once an album gets its hooks in you, it’ll never let go. Post a comment below letting us know what makes an album “essential” to you.

Tonight, we also premiered a new track from Seattle band The Wages of Sin off their new album “Queensbury Rules.” Stop by the Tractor Tavern next Friday 9/26 for their album release party if you are n Seattle and make sure to hit up to Slim’s for the Zorch Invasion on October 10th to see Curse Of The Black Tongue, The Load Levelers and Graveyard Shift.

Check out our Events Page for figuring out how to spend your nights off, or stop by the Donate page to find out how to support the program. Follow Zorch Radio on Twitter or send records to our new mailbox listed on the contact page.

If you like the music we play, then support the artists and our scene by purchasing their music. The albums in the playlist below are hyperlinked to where you can buy it. If you’re in a band listed below and know of a better place for people to buy your music, please contact us with the link so we can update our database.

Zorch Radio Episode 206: Black Cheeseburgers

Airdate: Thursday, September 11th, 2014

Uncontrollable desire, regret, lost love, or even lost lunches…

It seems like a good idea after a cheap ass half rack and the sign off of the Thursday Night Wrecking Pit, but in actuality, there are few good ideas around fast food. This evening, we -tossed- around some of our stories of the WORST fast food ideas and experiences. Whether it’s black cheeseburgers, Jack In The Box’s relentless marketing to Washington’s “green liberties,” Chicken McNoggins, or even toes in your Wendy’s chili, it seems like’s everybody’s had some unfortunately memorable experiences with fast food.

Kjersti had the night off, so it was just Hoddady, Djake, and you holding the fort down. In addition to more info on the 2nd Annual Zorch Invasion, we had a new record to deflower: The 1991 Dionysis release of The Hellbillys’s first EP! Lots of requests for Seattle act Los Gatos Locos, and a small block of New England psychobilly tied this episode up to showcase some great American psychobilly acts. If you need to experience some yankeebilly first hand, then make sure to hit up to Slim’s for the Zorch Invasion on October 10th to see Curse Of The Black Tongue, The Load Levelers and Graveyard Shift.

Check out our Events Page for figuring out how to spend your nights off, or stop by the Donate page to find out how to support the program. Follow Zorch Radio on Twitter or send records to our new mailbox listed on the contact page.

As we are almost all avid fans of horror, we’d love to hear your fast food horror stories. Share it in a comment below.

Zorch Radio Episode 205: Top Venues in History

Airdate: Thursday, September 4th, 2014

The final laps of the Thursday Night Wrecking Pit asked you to share your favorite venues of all time. While there were lots of great Puget Sound submissions (Slim’s Last Chance Saloon, Hell’s Kitchen, Showbox SoDo, El Corazon and of course, The Funhouse R.I.P.) the best stories were the ones that were from out of state, such as The 1st Ave in Minneapolis that used to be a bus station, and The Hollywood Knitting Factory which housed a large number of California psychobilly gigs. I’m sure they weren’t all covered, though, so let us know which venues we missed in the comments below.

The 2nd Annual Zorch Invasion is just a few weeks away. Make sure to hit up to Slim’s on October 10th to see Graveyard Shift, The Load Levelers and Curse Of The Black Tongue.

Zorch Radio Episode 204: Prank Legacies

Zorch Radio Episode 204: Prank Legacies

Airdate: Thursday, August 28th, 2014

Everyone loves a good laugh, sometimes even at the expense of someone else. During tonight’s episode of Zorch Radio, we decided to turn our attention to The Art of The Prank. We asked the Invaders in the Real Punk Radio chat room to share their prank legacies, whether it was them pulling it or it being pulled on them. Some of our favorites came from Invaders Brent and Eugene – Brent shared his college prank of switching out his roommate’s water bottle with a bottle of vodka, and Eugene suggested zip-tying your friend’s tools together.

Also going on tonight aside from asking about pranks and swapping stories, DJ Hodaddy took over the turntables for the last hour of the show and shared his own brand of sleaze before the big announcement of the night was unveiled. The 2nd Annual Zorch Invasion has set a date for Friday October, 10th and will be taking over Slim’s Last Chance in Seattle. We’ve already announced that acts Graveyard Shift and The Load Levelers are on the bill, and tonight was the night we announced the FINAL act for the Invasion: Curse Of The Black Tongue!

Check out our Events Page for figuring out how to spend your nights off, or stop by the Donate page to find out how to support the program. Follow Zorch Radio on Twitter and like us on Facebook. More info is also on the contact page.

Zorch Radio Episode 203: Ice Challenge Alternatives

Airdate: Thursday, August 21st, 2014

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taken over the Internet over the past couple of weeks; heightening awareness about Lou Gehring’s Disease, raking in millions of dollars in charitable donations, and soaking people with ice water. Doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is cool, it’s viral, it’s the hip thing to do! But what will come next? So tonight, we at Zorch Radio had to ask: what is going to be the next Ice Bucket Challenge?

To all the Invaders who tuned in at Real Punk Radio on Thursday night we popped the question and we got back some great, and questionably great, answers! Brent had tons of ideas including chugging beer to raise awareness and donations towards hangover cures, as well as the Ebola challenge which he didn’t elaborate on. Keenan suggested a sulfuric acid challenge, DJ Hodaddy said we should poop in each other’s toilets and dumb the contents over our heads – tons of great ideas! Let’s see which one ends up on Youtube next!

Aside from our big discussion of the night, we also made a HUGE announcement! Over the past few weeks on the show we’ve announced that the 2nd Annual Zorch Invasion will be taking over Slim’s Last Chance in Seattle and now we’re slowly releasing the names of the bands scheduled to play that night. Last week Graveyard Shift was revealed as our headliner, and tonight we are proud to announce that….. THE LOAD LEVELERS WILL ALSO BE PLAYING THE 2ND ANNUAL ZORCH INVASION ON OCTOBER 10TH! Keep tuning in to Zorch Radio each week to hear more updates about the upcoming Invasion taking place on Friday October 10th.

Check out our Events Page for figuring out how to spend your nights off, or stop by the Donate page to find out how to support the program. Follow Zorch Radio on Twitter and like us on Facebook. More info is also on the contact page.

Zorch Radio Episode 202: Gettin Creepy!

Airdate: Thursday, August 14th, 2014

It’s always great to get together to share a few beers and listen to records… until that CREEP stops by. We shared some of our creepiest and most socially awkward experiences throughout tonight’s program. Whether it was explaining “unmentionables” to parents, pubic restroom etiquette, or what internet access at the public library should/should not be used for, there were plenty of contributions to tonight’s gut worming discussion.

In addition, we had a HUGE announcement regarding the second annual Zorch Invasion, happening Friday, October 10th at Slim’s Last Chance It’s been three years since they played Washington state, but the wait is over and the Seattle psychobillies Graveyard Shift will be returning for this gig! More announcements to come on future episodes of Zorch Radio.

Zorch Radio Episode 169: Magnetic Juggalos
Airdate: Thursday, November 21, 2013

SUBSCRIBE.

Tonight’s episode lasted a mere 2 hours as we rebroadcasted an episode of Gone Mental towards the end of the show. But before we let Twin Cities Rockabilly take over, we made sure to have some of our own fun.

Kjersti and Jake discussed the merits of Sukiyaki Western Django, if any. DJ Hodaddy told us to dig No More Lies by The Gruesomes, and we talked about an upcoming show in Shoreline where the legendary ‘The ‘Verb’ will be playing.

Are you planning on making it out to Darrell’s Tavern to see The ‘Verb? Let us know in the comments below!
