Nothin’ treats the soul better than chicken noodle soup, except soul music. And episode 12 is nothin’ but the soulful sounds of men who’ve lived harder lives than I. I actually still listen to this episode weekly; partly because I have yet to find a better soul podcast. One of my favorite tracks on here was the 3rd track in, by Willie Jones. It’s called “Where’s My Money?” and its the story of the life I’d like to think I’ll never have to live. That one song doesn’t define the entire episode, though. There is a track by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Piney Brown, Abner Jay, Hank Jacobs…the list is almost 30 blue men long. And when you’re crying in the bathtub afterwards (of sheer happiness), give a holler to Dj Drunk.
