BOTW on March 7th, 2013: Ugly Things on the Radio #9
Broadcast of the Week on Zorch Radio Episode 137
Airdate: Thursday, March 7th, 2013
Congratulations! Ugly Things on the Radio #9

The best part about this show wasn’t getting to hear his family having dinner in the background, but that he has the missing Downliners Sect EP. What happened was the records went missing and they were left with a bunch of sleeves. Somewhere along the way, the missing music is found on reel to reel at a garage sale. He plays an entire side of it, and I have to say, they are pretty badass. You may want to check out some other things by Mike Stax, like his zine Ugly Things.

BOTW on February 28th, 2013: Southbay Pork #21: Animals, Creatures and Things
Broadcast of the Week on Zorch Radio Episode 136
Airdate: Thursday February 28th, 2013
Congratulations! Southbay Pork #21: Animals, Creatures and Things

Rootin’ around and combin’ through the garage punk archives, I rediscovered a dandy ol’ show called Southbay Pork. Episode 21 was an attempt to explain the hiatus. Apparently, he was kidnapped and dropped in the woods, and spent the year living with the Bigfeet and couldn’t escape. He plays lots of music about the primate species, and ends it with music to celebrate his triumphant return home. Towards the end, he starts playin’ some weird stuff, but that makes it all the more fun.

A lingering stench has filled the air of The All New KGRG FM once again. Unlike Episode 133, where we wanted to know what The Puget Sound Underground ate to make our station smell so terrible, this week we wanted to know who left a little present behind in Jake’s trashcan. Yep. Tonight we needed to know WHO POOPED IN THE TRASHCAN??
Aside from the usual crap, we had a special guest in studio tonight. Nick the Hat, madman artist and musician came up to the station tonight to treat us to some of his favorite albums. Aside from sharing his killer collection of bizarro psyche, garage and instrumentals, Nick also shared with us his experiences in radio, his own musical career, and the inspirations behind his nightmare-inducing artwork.
SO YOU HAVE ANY CLUES ON WHO MIGHT HAVE POPPED IN OUR TRASHCAN? We are still looking for the culprit. Please leave a comment below or notify us on our social media pages so we can bring this masked marauder to justice! This evening has a significant lacking of psychobilly, so if that’s what you’re after, check out Episode 138.

Fast and furious, rockin’ and rolling – tonight’s episode slammed into 4th gear and didn’t let up.
Kicking off tonight’s show we announced that we had a pair of tickets to this month’s Grindhouse Theater screening of Maniac in Tacoma. To win those tickets we asked all the Invaders listening in on the airwaves what their favorite song is to sing along to is – thankfully none of you Invaders know the feeling of shame.
From show tunes to The Trashmen, we had calls and Tweets coming in about who we sing along with. Even better than the artists and bands were the places which included but weren’t limited to driving to work, picking up kids from school, showering, washing the family tortoise…
With a mind melting MENAGERIE of trash and chaotic psychobilly behind us, we launched into a very special guest performance by local party band: The Bottlenose Koffins who blasted through a live set of some reverb-soaked trash. Pick up their debut album “Gayzilla” at The Kraken on April 12th. Before our night was through, Kjersti also recapped her latest Trash-Tastic Review on Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky.
Do YOU have a band or artist that you love singing along to? TELL US ABOUT IT! Leave a comment below or hunt us down on one of our social media pages.

When everybody was getting ready for their two-spoon fulls of psychobilly-garage-trash on
The All New KGRG FM, Jake was pickin his nose and goofed up the intro. And that was only the start of the whole mess.
Something about this evening had these goddamn robots against us. Sure, most people would blame it on operator error, especially when the host can’t even remember which bands are from where (Sorry, Tabaltix), but you can’t shift the blame on a robot that randomly shuts off.
We were just ankle deep into in the evening’s rebroadcast of Gone Mental, when that computer overheated and went kaput. I would like to challenge everybody to try cueing up a record blindfolded while avoiding silence on the airwaves. We normally try not to ramble so much, but the real challenge is that KGRG’s turntables are about six feet away from the mic, and that’s about four feet too many for this deejay’s cubby little hobbit arms.
But hey, at least you know it’s live, right? And at least you know these podcasts aren’t just douchebaggeried-overproduced-Clear-Channel-enemas.
This evening, we were also giving away tickets to Maris Farms for their Haunted Woods, and Andrew from Snohomish was the lucky Invader who got to claim em.

“What the hell is a ‘Kappa?’” is probably what you’re asking right now. Good thing Nick Gucker cleared this up for us. After having met the chief-poster-designer of Grindhouse Theater (take a peek at his Evil Dead poster in Episode 115), we learned Nick was not only a fan of guitar legends like Davie Allan and Ennio Morricone, but he was also a musician. Nick called in to talk about his band Brain Hornet and their upcoming gig at the Seattle Funhouse (R.I.P.).
As if that wasn’t enough talk about the Grindhouse Theater, Justin Giallo also phoned in to talk up their upcoming showing of Phantasm. Check out Kjersti’s review of the film on her Trash-Tastic Thursday page.
Lots of grand pyschotronic rock and roll on The All New KGRG FM, too, with the debuting of the clean psychobilly sounds of the KDV Deviators and a wrong Madheads track. Oops! At least you know the show is live, right?

Broadcast of the Week on Zorch Radio Episode 138
Airdate: Thursday, March 14th, 2013
Congratulations! Rat Surf Radio Episode #4

This is the fourth installment of a killer show! The music was top notch and he had some great soundbites. He plays a bunch of gnarly surf tunes that pound your eardrums like waves pounding gremmies tryin’ to shoot the curl. My ears are still a little soggy. He plays some Davie Allan and the Arrows, The Phantom Surfers, the Trashwomen, and a bunch of others!

Cat memes, chewing tobacco, breathers, feet draggers, and putting gas in our cars – what do all of these things have in common? They’re all pet peeves. And don’t they drive us INSANE!?
Tonight’s discussion on Zorch Radio is based on another anonymous question submitted to our Tumblr inbox: WHAT IS YOUR PET PEEVE?
We received plenty of complaints including traffic on the freeway, people, and nonbiodegradeable grocery bags. The only good things about pet peeves: everyone has one, everyone wants to share them, and there’s still room in the comment section below for you to share yours.
Aside from what’s bugging us, we talked about Klubfoot USA all night – the enormous psychobilly festival happening St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Hollywood, California. Justin of Los Gatos Locos was in The All New KGRG FM studio talking about the gig and sharing his history with the Seattle band.
Plus, beginning with this blog post, we are starting something new with our playlists here at Zorch Radio dot com: The album title is now listed and hyperlinked so you can buy it. As Dan from Gone Mental would say, “If you like their *BEEEEEEP*, by all means, BUY THEIR *BEEEEEEEEP*. Support the artist as that is what lets them continue to put out new music” (or something like that). If you see your band listed below or if there is a better place for people to buy your music, please let us know through our contact page. We’re in the process of making a database, and we’ll adjust that too.

Awesome guests this evening! Local filthy blues duo Dead Man brought up some of their records and played a live set. Uncle Hickory runs the fantastic Slim’s Last Chance and Brian runs Paint Shaker Music and Elliott Bar Recording Company. While DJ Hodaddy was gettin the sound setup, we had an emergency and needed a replacement snare+stand… Which introduced us to the evening’s Give-Away: The first person to bring a snare+stand to The All New KGRG FM studios would win tickets to Dick Dale! Congratulations (AND THANK YOU) Andy!
This evening, Kjersti hosted another Trash-Tastic Minute on Grindhouse Theater‘s showing of Cannibal Ferox and we blasted some brand new music from Splatterhouse Wreckords. Also for some reason, Andy refused to use the robot to write up the playlist… so you get a photo with all his beautiful handwriting.

We made a brand new introduction for this episode. Too bad it sucked! While it is a current “work in progress,” we still followed up with three hours of psychotronic rock and roll: psychobilly, garage, surf and trash on The All New KGRG FM.
Tonight’s discussion came from Tumblr where we were asked about our most memorable concerts. Invaders shared their stories like seeing Tool on ‘shrooms, a value menu Flogging Molly gig, Dee Dee Ramone beating the shit out of somebody, and there’s still room for more stories. Share yours as a comment below.
Topping off our night we announced the third addition to the Zorch Invasion May 24th at Slim’s Last Chance: Home town heroes, Hard Money Saints will be joining Dead Bundy and the Neat Neat Neats and The No Tomorrow Boys! On top of this announcement, Matt Heretic of Los Gatos Locos called in about the upcoming psychobilly festival Klubfoot USA. Ending the night, we played an episode of Michael Kaiser’s RadiOblivion.

Tonight’s three hours of psychobilly, garage and surf on The All New KGRG FM was chock full of special guests. Murder Mike of Graveyard Shift called in, later followed by Kris of The Quaranteds. Both called in to chat up about their upcoming performances at Klubfoot USA. You can get The Quaranted’s album ‘Get Sum’ currently through their Etsy shop, and Graveyard Shift’s album ‘Rest Without Peace’ is currently in stock at Raucous Records.
Rolling knee deep into the evening, we we honored to host an interview with one of our personal heroes: Mr. Lloyd Kaufman of Troma! Lloyd discussed his work with underground media, the importance of keeping independent art alive, and how people can directly fight the media conglomerates through Troma’s project Occupy Cannes.
But this wasn’t enough for us. We also were giving away tickets to see The Reverend Horton Heat w/ Jello Biafra at El Corazon. All you had to do to win these tickets was answer a asked a simple question: When have you defied a social norm? If you missed your chance to brag your legend, just leave a comment below! Lots of great stories were shared this evening…

Lots of loud rock and roll on The All New KGRG FM! We blasted the doors down with psychobilly and garage punk. Local punk band Kramer sent us a copy of their killer 7″ and Brandon called up to talk about an upcoming gig for the band. In addition to this, we gave away tickets to see Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band at The Tractor Tavern and played a “lost” episode of RadiOblivion, kindly borrowed from Michael Kaiser’s Soundcloud. Too bad those goddamn robots weren’t doing their job… things started breaking near the end. It sounds like we’re rambling, but we’re actually just trying to fill dead air while we un-break the robots. Welcome to the not-so-mysterious he secrets of radio….

BOTW on November 1st, 2012: Lord Muck’s Nasty Grind Episode 39
Broadcast of the Week on Zorch Radio Episode 120
Airdate: November 1st, 2012
Congratulations! Lord Muck’s Nasty Grind Episode 39

Lord Muck, straight out of London, has a fantastic show called Nasty Grind. I chose to showcase the 39th installment, which is chock full of songs I probably couldn’t find myself if I tried. The initial layout of the podcast is very weird, in the sense that the first 6 or so minutes are a huge mash up of audio and music clips before a full song is played. Definitely worth the listen though, especially if you like musical wonders brought to you by the likes of Hasil Adkins, Link Wray, Willie Joe and his Unitar, and plenty of others.

Aside from premiering some psychobilly from Curse of the Black Tongue, The Squidbillys, The Quaranteds, some trashy blues from Stinky Lou, and some extra loud garage from The Bottlenose Koffins, we mainly talked movies tonight. In honor of Grindhouse Theater‘s screening of Blacula on 35mm film, we all shared our stories of what our favorite BAD movies are with a pair of ticket for Blacula up for grabs.
Charlie Splatterhead of Los Gatos Locos called in to talk about the upcoming Klubfoot USA festival and their latest album “Even Sociopaths Get The Blues” on Zodiac Killer Records. We also had Jo and Lawrence from Graham Kapowsin High School job shadowing The All New KGRG FM and capped off the show with a freshly-edited Gone Mental. If you missed your chance to plug your favorite “bad” movie, then leave a comment below.

Broadcast of the Week on Zorch Radio Episode 121
Airdate: November 8th, 2012
Congratulations! Sonic Nightmares #50 Anniversary Episode

Gringo Starr, Brother Panti-Christ, Reverend Beat-Man, and El Tiki take you through plenty of music and drinking with such surprises as live on the spot performances from the good and honorable Reverend Beat-Man. The episode runs through 4 song sets with plenty of good old punk that I’m too young to remember. Jerry’s Kids, TSOL, Angry Samoans, The Stooges, Gang Green…and not just the kind of things you shake your rubber hose at, there is some Urban Voodoo Machine and also the Magnetix. Two full hours of quality drunken radio programming, and not a single second wasted.

While we were digging for the cream of the crop of psychobilly, garage, and trash, the rest of the United States was bickering about which business-suit they were going to bend over for. Good thing all that political junk is over; we always look forward to our three hours at The All New KGRG FM to take a break from all that online finger-pointing. To lighten the air a bit, we asked who YOU wrote in on your ballot for President of the United State on the most recent election. Feel free to cast your vote on a comment down below.
This evening, we regretfully informed you of the terrible effects of Hurricane Sandy on Norton Records, gave away tickets to see Dick Dale at the Crocodile, and filled you in on KGRG’s Pledge Drive.

Airdate: November 15th, 2012
Congratulations! Bibliodiscoteque Episode 31: Eric Powell’s The Goon

This was a halloween episode with a theme based around the book The Goon. There is plenty of psychobilly from the Meteors, Demented Are Go, Calabrese, Guanabatz, and its mixed with Dick Dynamite and the Doppelgangers, Nick Curran, Jack Rabbit Slim, and the Babboons. That may a good chunk of the setlist right there, but there is plenty of other music pushed into the hour to keep your eardrums a’poundin’.

Three full hours of psychobilly, rockabilly, and a dash of surf on The All New KGRG FM, and yet The Pope could not find a single love-themed song for Valentine’s Day. So he resigned. Or something like that….
While everyone else was out buying candy and greeting cards, Zorch Radio didn’t play into any of those corny-ass dedications, “shout-outs” or that lovey-dovey crap. Nah, we went the other direction – we wanted THE DIRT.

Congratulations! Sounds Like Crime Episode 12: Soul R’n'B Special

December 13th – Episode 125
Sounds Like Crime #12
Nothin’ treats the soul better than chicken noodle soup, except soul music. And episode 12 is nothin’ but the soulful sounds of men who’ve lived harder lives than I. I actually still listen to this episode weekly; partly because I have yet to find a better soul podcast. One of my favorite tracks on here was the 3rd track in, by Willie Jones. It’s called “Where’s My Money?” and its the story of the life I’d like to think I’ll never have to live. That one song doesn’t define the entire episode, though. There is a track by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Piney Brown, Abner Jay, Hank Jacobs…the list is almost 30 blue men long. And when you’re crying in the bathtub afterwards (of sheer happiness), give a holler to Dj Drunk.

Kjersti had the night off this evening, so good thing we only had two hours to fill at The All New KGRG FM. An edited version of Gone Mental Episode 63 filled the caboose as we talked about how everybody would be spending the upcoming holidays. I had recently made a trip to Bop Street Records in Ballard and we spent a fair amount of the evening talking about Grindhouse Theater’s showing of Cannibal Ferox. Too bad you missed out on the tickets! Maybe next month?

BOTW on December 20th, 2012: Norton Jukebox of Wild Delights
Broadcast of the Week on Zorch Radio Episode 126
Airdate: Thursday, December 20th, 2012
Congratulations! Norton Jukebox of Wild Delights

The Screamin’ Soul Preacher brings you the best of the best of his Norton record collection, encouraging you to support Norton after that evil windbag Sandy decided to decimate everything on the east coast. 99% of what he plays on this episode is a Norton record, and it sure as shit made me wish I had money to spend on records. Everything on this podcast you will not likely find in any record shop in this dimension, unless its on a piece of genuine fine pressed Norton wax.

One of the finest attributes of broadcasting from Green River Community College is forming friendships and working relationships with the other DJs and show hosts of The All New KGRG FM. But sometimes such close quarters isn’t the best thing…
Before Zorch Radio, The All New KGRG FM‘s Puget Sound Underground plays four hours of hand picked local music from 3-7pm PST on Thursdays (you might remember their debut prior to Zorch Radio Episode 70?), but this week they left a little surprise for us. Walking into the station we were all hit with a wall of stink. Yep. Someone affiliated with The Puget Sound Underground ripped more-than-one in studio and left us to dwell in the funk. PUGET Sound Underground? More like PUTRID Sound Underground!
Before launching into a NEW episode of RadiOblivion, we asked for the input of The Invaders: WHAT DID THE MEMBER(S) OF PUGET UNDERGROUND EAT FOR LUNCH TO MAKE THIS STINK? Nobody was short on creativity tonight. We’re still bedazzled by this mystery, so if YOU have an idea, please let us know in a comment below.
To reward the best imagined source of Puget Sound’s gas-buffet, we gave away a pair of tickets to see rockabilly supergroup The Whammy! at El Corazon on Saturday February 23rd. Make sure to listen to future episode of Zorch Radio LIVE for your chance to win tickets to upcoming events.
